Call for 2017 CAPA/GoPath Best Abstract Award

On behalf of the Chinese American Pathologists Association (CAPA) Executive Committee, we are delighted to announce the 2017 CAPA/GoPath Best Abstract Award for pathologists-in-training.

The mission of the Chinese American Pathologists Association is to promote excellence in practice, education and research in pathology, as well as advocacy on behalf of Chinese pathologists. The objective of the CAPA/GoPath Best Abstract Award is to encourage and reward outstanding research contributions by our young pathologists.

Eligibility:
1) First-authored abstracts accepted for either platform or poster presentation at the 2017 USCAP Annual Meeting
2) Pathologists-in-training (current residents and fellows) of Chinese ethnicity in North America

Application:
Submit the accepted abstracts along with USCAP acceptance notices to Dr. Hanlin Wang by emailing to hanlinwang@mednet.ucla.edu, no later than January 15, 2017.

Selection:
The abstracts will be reviewed and scored in a blind fashion by members of the selection committee. Abstracts with the highest average scores will be selected as winners. There will be one winner for the first place, two for the second place, and three for the third place.

Recognition:
The awards will be presented to the winners at the Annual CAPA Business Meeting during the upcoming 2017 USCAP Annual Meeting in the afternoon of Saturday, March 4, 2017, in San Antonio. Each winner will receive a certificate with his/her name, a cash award, and recognition on the CAPA website. The winners must be present in the CAPA meeting in person; otherwise the awards will be revoked. The winners will be notified in the beginning of the February 2017, and are required to confirm their attendance to the CAPA meeting.

We encourage residents and fellows to become CAPA associate members (no membership fee for residents and fellows until the changes to the bylaws implemented). Please go to www.capaht.org for forms and instructions to submit membership application.

Call for Speakers for Chinese Society of Pathology Annual Meeting in He’fei, November 24-27, 2016

The Chinese Society of Pathology (CSP) Annual Meeting will take place in He’fei, China, November 24-27, 2016. As we did in previous years, CAPA is calling for five speakers from the CAPA community for this Chinese national meeting. The meeting organizer has given the following specific topics to avoid overlap with the other speakers at this meeting.

1. 胸部学组:非胸腺瘤和淋巴瘤的纵膈少见疾病的诊断与鉴别诊断(1位,分会场发言,时间20‐30分钟)

2. 细胞病理:最新宫颈细胞学TBS分类(1位,分会场发言,时间20‐30分钟)

3. 骨软组织:骨软组织肿瘤分子病理诊断与治疗相关的新进展(1位,分会场发言,时间20‐30分钟)

4. 淋巴造血:讲座内容是关于淋巴瘤病理诊断的一些新进展,不是与治疗、预后有关的进展(1位,分会场发言,时间20‐30分钟)。

5. 女性生殖:除子宫内膜癌和卵巢甲状腺肿以外;妇科疾病病理诊断与鉴别诊断新进展相关内容(1位,分会场发言,时间20‐30分钟)

The speaker candidate should be a regular or life time member of CAPA. As requested by the organizer of CSP meeting, the speakers should be an associate professor or professor (or its equivalent) at an academic institution. If you are interested to give a talk at this meeting, please pick one of the titles listed above and email the title, a short abstract of your talk, and your short biography or CV to Dr. Yun Gong, co-Chair of Education Committee (yungong@mdanderson.org). The deadline for submission is July 26, 2016. The final selection of the speakers will be made by the CAPA Education Committee, Executive Committee, and the corresponding CSP subcommittees.

Similar to last year’s meeting, the meeting will cover the registration fee, one way air or train ticket from any city inside China to Hefei, one way air or train ticket from Hefei to any city inside China, meals and hotel for the meeting. However the meeting will not pay for international travel for the selected speakers.

2016 President’s Message

Dear Friends,

It is my distinguished honor and privilege to be elected as the president of the Chinese American Pathologists Association (CAPA) for 2016-2017. Thank you for your support and trust!

CAPA has become an internationally recognized organization within the pathology community, thanks to the strong leadership and strategic visions of our past presidents; dedication from our current and past executive committee members, subcommittee chairs, co-chairs and members; and strong support from our active members.

I would like to express my special thanks to Dr. Fan Lin for his strong leadership and to his leadership team and many active members for their hard work and outstanding contribution to CAPA. We have achieved numerous milestones in CAPA’s history in the past year as listed in Dr. Lin’s CAPA Annual Report and we had another historic and successful gathering in Seattle. I would like to thank our sponsors, distinguished friends in pathology from China, all CAPA members and friends for your generous support and contribution to the great CAPA community.

As we move into the next year, I look forward to working with our leadership teams and active members to continue the great CAPA programs and to implement new ones as listed below.

1. To organize the First CAPA Companion Meeting at 2016 CAP Annual Meeting in Las Vegas
